Hello, I'm Jared! It is very nice to meet you and I'm very excited to share a bit about myself with you!
Academics
Academics have been a big part of my life for the last four or five years, so let's start there! I graduated from USU in 2024 with my bachelor's degree in Geography with a Certificate in GIS (GIS is a fancy term for maps and mapping, kind of like Google Maps, it's pretty fun). After graduating, I decided to continue on with a Master's Degree in geography. Currently I am studying heat, specifically how heat poses a danger to people who are recreating on trails in the Western United States. With my research I hope to help inform hikers, bikers, and anyone else who uses trails so they can stay safe and enjoy the outdoors.
Additionally, I have had the opportunity to teach GIS skills in the Intro GIS course at USU as well as the Advanced GIS course. I have absolutely loved teaching. It is fun and can sometimes take some patience, which are skills I am sure will definitely help me when I become a father someday!
Hobbies
First off, I absolutely LOVE board games and card games. When I was a kid, I used to play many card and board games with my family, and I feel that it is something that bonded us together. To this day, every time my wife and I visit my parents, we usually make sure to play a board or card game during our visit.
I've now built a good collection of games. I believe what draws me to the games is that I love the feeling of critically thinking and learning new strategies, as well as just playing a game that brings me closer to those I'm playing it with. I hope to play many games with my future children and teach them that while winning games is fun, the most rewarding part comes from having fun with friends and family and learning something new.
Hobbies Cont.
I also have quite a few hobbies that I love to do outside. I love fishing, hiking, and I love flying drones. My work involves using drones, so I have a commercial pilot's license to fly them, but I also like getting out and taking some pictures and videos. Below are some images that I captured myself using my drone! Getting outdoors is really important to me. I look forward to taking my child on many fishing, hiking, and camping trips to build our bond and the bond with our world.
This was probably the smallest fish I have ever caught
Looking Forward
I'm keeping my options open regarding what I do after school. I am considering a PHD, as I do love teaching, or I might join the workforce in a government or private job. Ultimately, what I care most about is working hard so that I can give my family the best life possible. I work everyday with the purpose of providing a safe, secure, and loving future for my family. I will make sure that our future child has the opportunity to enjoy growing up by keeping them safe and secure in a loving and stable home.
What Lindsey has to say about Jared...
Jared is one of the hardest-working people I know. When he sets his mind to something, he’ll do whatever it takes to accomplish it. That’s something I’ve always admired about him—it gives me such a sense of comfort and security, knowing he’ll always take care of our family.
But beyond his work ethic, Jared loves with his whole heart. He’s my biggest support, especially during the hard moments. He knows how to lift me up, make me laugh, and see the bright side of things. He’s also a great problem solver—we always talk things through and find solutions together.
Jared is also a little bit nerdy—and I absolutely love that about him. Whether he’s diving into a new board game strategy, or sharing his interests with me, his excitement is contagious. It’s one of the things that makes him so fun to be around, and I know it’s something our future child will adore about him too.
Jared is goofy, lighthearted, and never fails to brighten my day. I can’t wait to see him step into fatherhood. I know he’ll be a kind, loving, and nurturing dad—and, most of all, an incredible role model for our future children.
